Okay, I am palpitating to get to the matter here, but first, an introduction: I have been reading Jane and Michael Stern's coverage of the food world since I was a teenager; I always thought, these folks have the coolest gigs in the country. Later, in turned out I had the privilege to have my writing occasionally appear in the same issues of Bon Appetit and Gourmet as theirs. And 15 minutes ago, I received an email from their website, roadfood.com, linking to -- oh my god -- Michael Stern's write-up today of Ristretto. I feel as though I am going to cry. Portland has more places that roast, brew, and serve it in earnest than we'll ever have time to sample; but of those we have tried, we like Ristretto Roasters best.
