Jackie (who built this blog, doncha know) asked me to send her father in Ohio a poundcake. This is the note she received back:
"The pound cake came yesterday and it is fabulous. [My wife] Bonnie just had a bite because she thinks it is loaded with butter which I tend to agree. I brought a few pieces to work and people were clamoring for more. I told them it came from a friend of yours in Portland and I was sure they could order some if they wanted. Anytime you associate a cost with food, people tend to lose interest. They're not getting any more of mine!!!!!"
Thanks, Mr. Danicki!
The original recipe comes from my best friend's mother; I've been baking it since I was eleven and have shipped it further than Ohio, always with good results. I also bake it for the shop, where it appears under the customer-bestowed rubric Pound-and-a-Half-Cake. Come by for a slice, or send me an email at [email protected], and I'll send you one, twenty bucks plus $4 shipping.
