Within ten days of opening, Ristretto Roasters received its first press from Stefania Butler. She followed up a week later with a more lavish post over on Slashfood. Who was this lovely woman?
"Oh, you know her," said Din. "She comes in all the time, with her computer..."
Uh...
It took six weeks before I put the name with the face, but yes, she did come in all the time with her computer, and sometimes with two glowing and cherubic little girls, of whom she often writes on City Mama, the sort of parenting blog where a post might begin, "We Came, We Saw, We Said 'Fuck It' and Went Home,' which really can apply to so many toddler-related experiences, but anyway, I thanked Stefania for saying such nice things about Ristretto. She countered that with her, 'Don't hate me because I'm beautiful' gig as someone who gets paid to blog, she was overjoyed to find a spot that suited her needs: free wifi, great coffee and keep it coming, and throw in one of those pumpkin muffins while you're at it.
Several months ago, Stefania husband's work took the family to SF. Since then, I've received several emails from her saying how much she misses Portland, and hanging out at Ristretto, and that she'll be in such-and-such a weekend to "check on our house and make sure it's still standing... we'll stop in to say hi and to buy about a 1,000 pounds of coffee."
Last Thursday, she told the world they could do the same via mail-order. Thanks, Stefania. Come back soon.
We will be there *this* weekend. Let's hope we have a "wide awake" airplane this time.
Mmmmmmm pumpkin muffins...
